Hapkido
literally means “The art of co-ordinated
power”.
Hapkido employs a powerful
arsenal of spinning kicks, thrusts
& sweeps combined with hard
& soft fist attacks & defences.
Hapkido also uses nerve & pressure
points, wrist & joint locks
and many twisting & throwing
techniques. Hapkido employs the
philosophy of using the least amount
of energy to overcome a stronger
opponent. Male and female can apply
Hapkido techniques effectively regardless
of size
and strength.

As well as self-defence, other
areas of improvement include: fitness, flexibility,
co-ordination, muscular endurance &
strengthening, self-control, posture, confidence,
timing, self-esteem & much much more.
Historically Hapkido was an
art confined for the Royal Court, to the
nobility and upper class society.
Hapkido techniques were originally handed
down through the hierarchy of monks, ruling
families, royal officials and the elite‘hwarang’
warriors of Korea.
The purpose was for self-protection and
also to train the future national leaders
by means of stringent training, combining
mental discipline, martial arts and traditional
scholarship.
The founder of Hapkido, Grandmaster
Yong Sul Choi along with some of his top
students refined Hapkido to a highly effective
martial art form.
Today, Hapkido techniques are taught to
various law enforcement agencies around
the world.
